As the Sr. Electrical Designer, reporting directly to our Engineering manager. You will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and commissioning electrical systems and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop electrical designs, schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and control drawings.
  • Design electrical control panels, power distribution systems, motor-control circuits, and machine electrical systems.
  • Prepare electrical BOMs, cable schedules, I/O lists, wire lists, and panel documentation.
  • Select and specify electrical components such as PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo drives, relays, contactors, circuit breakers, transformers, and safety devices.
  • Use electrical CAD/design software AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical.
  • Perform electrical calculations, including load, voltage drop, short-circuit, and conductor sizing calculations where applicable.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant electrical codes, standards, and customer specifications.
  • Review electrical designs and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers.
  • Work closely with PLC/robot programmers and controls engineers to ensure seamless integration between electrical hardware and automation systems.
  • Support machine assembly, electrical installation, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
  • Investigate electrical problems and implement corrective and design improvements.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and project planning.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and support component selection and technical evaluations.
  • Maintain engineering documentation, revisions, drawings, and project records.
  • Support customer meetings and provide technical assistance during project execution and commissioning.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Post-secondary degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in electrical design, preferably in industrial automation, manufacturing, machinery, or robotics.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical control systems, machine control and industrial automation.
  • Proficiency with electrical CAD software such as AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Experience designing control panels and industrial electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, safety circuits, sensors, and industrial networks.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical specifications.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable Canadian electrical standards and CSA/UL requirements is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and project coordination skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet engineering deadlines.

Physical & Safety Tasks

All applicants must be able to perform the following tasks as part of their player-coach operational responsibilities:

  • Walk up to 5 km per day during manufacturing floor oversight and plant walkthroughs.
  • Stand and work at heights or navigate tight operational environments during commissioning phases.
  • React quickly to visual and auditory factory alerts.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety footwear, safety eyewear, vests, and high-visibility gear during site visits.
